Ashby Homeostatic
- Posted: 26.Apr.2006. ![]() (Click for full size) The first Homeostat was built by Ross Ashby in the early 1950s and now it inspires art: The proposal is that the hue of each buoy in the network project is driven by a homeostatic network that attempts to stabilize its activity when it is perturbed by the environment. In the demos the activation of the units can also be perturbed by a user clicking on a unit - this simulates a torch being shone on a buoy. Currently this causes the unit to change to a green colour which persists for several seconds before the homeostatic network can act to re-stabilize the activation of the clicked unit(s).
